India reels under the biggest energy shortage in the emerging world and we at Longman Suntech Energy foresee Solar power to be one of nature’s boons that can pull the country out of this mess. India receives one of the highest solar radiance in the world. Just the current allocated land in Thar Desert of 35,000 sq.km can produce 3 times the current country’s power generation capacity. But that’s easier said than done.
A Distributed solar power plant of 1 kWp capacity is capable of producing 4 – 7 kWh of power equivalent on a daily basis. With 300 to 320 sunny days a year, an investment into such a plant earns a payback in 3 to 5 years and free electricity for the next 20 – 23 years.
